Underwood to be featured on Texas Country Reporter

Texas Country Reporter, Bob Phillips, interviewed Wes Underwood on March 31, for an upcoming segment to be aired in May. The segment will focus on Underwood’s passion for photography and his passion for telling the story of the “Lost and Forgotten.”

The “Lost and the Forgotten” is a collection of photographs that represent Underwood’s ten-year quest to record lost and forgotten cemeteries and graves. He has traveled more than 10,000 miles throughout Texas and the southwestern United States to capture more than 5,000 images and continues adds to it.

“I started shooting this series while working on my master’s degree in college as a class project,” Underwood said. “The subject intrigued me because of the contrast between well-manicured cemeteries compared to those that are lost and forgotten throughout the country.” He is always on the look out for more to photograph.

“I enjoy the history of the cemeteries, and the stories of the people who are buried there,” he said. “I feel the need to tell their untold stories to others.”

Underwood spends his day capturing the stories and students of South Plains College in his photographs, but in his time away from the college you can find him on Texas back roads looking for the lost and forgotten.

Underwood’s love for the outdoors comes thru very clear in the type of photography that he does, an avid outdoorsman he finds no greater pleasure then to be on a site to shoot as the sun breaks in the morning or sets in the evening.

Underwood has been published in several national magazines including The Cattleman, Saddle Baron, The Agriculturist and others.

Underwood is a graduate of Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas, with a M.S. in Agriculture Education and a B.S in Agricultural Communication and is currently the Photography Specialist at South Plains College in Levelland, Texas, as well as managing his own freelance photography company, WU Photo.
